The Terminator franchise seems to have taken a step back towards its roots with its latest instalment Terminator: Dark Fate which fans will be hoping can see a much-needed return to form after several lacklustre outings for the franchise.
Dark Fate will be the sixth film in the franchise and will see the long-awaited return of Linda Hamilton as the legendary Sarah Connor but few details have been revealed about the potential return of her son, John Connor... until now.
But just how will Dark Fate bring arguably the Terminator franchise's most important character back to our screens?
John Connor in the Terminator franchise
John Connor has been a stalwart in the now 34-year-old franchise. He's first referenced in 1984's original film before making his first appearance in 1991's sequel Judgement Day, portrayed as a ten-year-old by Edward Furlong.
In each film since John Connor has been played by three different actors. In 2003's Rise of the Machines, Nick Stahl takes on the role of a young adult John Connor while in Terminator Salvation, he's played by Christian Bale and then Jason Clarke took on the role in 2018's Terminator Genisys.
But what about Dark Fate?
John Connor is arguably one of cinema's most iconic characters so it's no wonder that Tim Miller's Terminator: Dark Fate will be bringing the character back for another rip-roaring action-filled adventure.
It was initially reported that John Connor was set to make an appearance in the new film in the form of flashbacks.
Jude Collie is set to take on the role of a young John Connor in said flashback scenes but will have Edward Furlong's face digitally layered over his own in a similar style to Rogue One's revival of Peter Cushing.
However, it was revealed at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con that Edward Furlong, now 41-years-old, will be reprising the role he made his own back in 1991's Terminator 2, something which long-time fans of the series will surely approve of.
