Everton boss Marco Silva has been keen to strengthen his midfield this summer.

According to Le Parisien, Everton have made contact with Juventus over potentially buying Blaise Matuidi from them.

Everton could be on the hunt for more additions in midfield this summer, with Idrissa Gueye’s future uncertain.

The Toffees reportedly feel that Matuidi could be a great addition to their squad, but they have been told that Juventus won’t be selling.

Whether Matuidi would have been interested in a move to Everton is up for debate anyway, as some of Europe’s leading sides were also in for him.

But the World Cup winning midfielder has admitted before that he watched Everton last term, as he wanted to see how Lucas Digne was progressing.

“Lucas played at PSG, Roma, Barca, the big clubs where he progressed offensively,” he said to the Daily Post.

“And here he plays in a championship (the Premier League) that forces him to be stronger defensively.

“I don’t see all his matches but I have seen him, and I find him effective.”

If Matuidi had joined Everton it would have thrown up even further questions about Gueye’s future.

It would also have been a very different signing to what Everton supporters have been used to, as Matuidi is now 32, rather than a youngster like they normally target.

Everton have actually been fairly quiet in the transfer market so far, but are expected to be very busy over the coming weeks.
