Real Mallorca defender Antonio Raillo will be playing La Liga football next season…unless Nottingham Forest bring him to the Championship.
It doesn’t take a professional psychiatrist to realise that Antonio Raillo was keen on joining Nottingham Forest in January.
Speaking to AS earlier in the year, the Real Mallorca defender admitted that Forest had made him a very tempting offer. Though, to his credit, he got his head down and performed admirably for the Spanish second tier outfit after a move to the City Ground failed to materialise.
“It was a very good opportunity,” he said. “But no one will be able to say that I threw in the towel and didn’t give everything for the club.”
Six months later, however, the opportunity could arise again.
According to El Mundo Deportivo, Nottingham Forest are once again mulling over a move for a player who has a release clause of just £3.5 million in his contract. Raillo is a centre-half by trade and therefore could potentially replace Molla Wague at the two-time Champions of Europe.
But if Forest return with a fresh offer, Raillo’s decision could be far harder than it was in January.
At the turn of the year, Mallorca were still playing in the Segunda division. Now, they are a top flight side, sealing promotion to La Liga after beating Deportivo La Coruna over 3-2 legs in a dramatic play-off in June.
So Raillo might have to choose between Spain’s top tier and England’s second.
