A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the club’s squad announcement for the Black Cats’ tour of Portugal (official Sunderland website).

Manager Jack Ross has taken a contingent of 25 players to the Iberian nation, which is setting off this morning ahead of friendlies against Benfica B (Thursday 18 July, 7:30pm) and Belenenses (Saturday 20 July, 7:30pm).

Aiden McGeady, Sunderland’s Player of the Year last term, has been named in the squad as he seeks to prove his fitness following a foot injury which impacted on his pre-season preparations.

New signings Lee Burge, Conor McLaughlin and Jordan Willis are also in the pack, as are Elliot Embleton, who signed a new deal this week, and Max Power, who injured his ankle in last season’s playoff final and is not expected to be fit for the start of the season.

However, Sunderland captain George Honeyman has not been included on the plane for Portugal, while Jon McLaughlin and Bryan Oviedo have been given extra time off after their international exploits with Scotland and Costa Rica.

Here is what some Black Cats fans said on the social media platform about the travelling squad:
