Liverpool have been tracking the Real Betis ace all summer long, according to reports.

According to a report from Spanish media outlet Marca, Liverpool will now face strong competition from Barcelona for Real Betis ace Junior Firpo.

The 22-year-old really impressed for Betis last season, racking up three goals and four assists in 24 La Liga appearances, and he seems to have all of the attributes needed to go on and become a real star in the game.

Spanish publication Mucho Deporte claimed earlier this month that Liverpool were leading the race to sign the Spain under-21 international.

It doesn’t seem as though the Reds will have things all their own way now, however.

Spanish media outlet Marca claims that Barcelona are extremely interested in signing €50 million-rated (£45 million) Firpo to provide competition for Jordi Alba.

So it seems as though Liverpool will now really have to up their game, if they want to bring the Betis ace to Anfield.

The Reds do have Andy Robertson as their first choice left-back, but having lost Alberto Moreno on a free transfer, Jurgen Klopp must bring in another left-sided defender to challenge the Scotland international for his place in the side.
