Does Josh Onomah have a future at Tottenham Hotspur under Mauricio Pochettino? Or could he return to the Championship with Wednesday?

Josh Onomah has no future at Tottenham Hotspur and has been put up for sale this summer, according to the Sun (17 July, page 50) – a move that is sure to interest Sheffield Wednesday.

Spurs fans expected so much of this Enfield-born midfielder and rightly so. When making his breakthrough in the 2015/16 season with 19 appearances in all competitions, a skilful and confident Onomah looked set to follow in the footsteps of Dele Alli and Eric Dier by becoming a regular fixture in Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield.

But a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa in 2017/18, where fans were queuing up to question both his quality and his attitude, appeared to have put the now 22-year-old irreversibly out of favour.

He struggled to make an impression during another Championship loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season too, failing to score in 15 games, although the Star claims that the Owls had held talks about bringing Onomah back to Hillsborough.

And claims from the Sun that he has been ‘bombed out’, shoved into the U23s and put up for sale by Mauricio Pochettino, will surely give supporters hope that they’ll see Onomah in blue and white stripes again.

But with Tottenham demanding £10 million for a player with eight caps for England’s U21s, it doesn’t look like the North London giants are willing to loan him out again. He could simply be far too expensive for Sheffield Wednesday, though they will be handed a cash boost by the £4 million compensation Newcastle have to pay to free Steve Bruce from his contract (Yorkshire Post).

What is certain, however, is that Onomah’s time as a Spurs player has shuddered to a disappointing and rather premature halt.
