Kemar Roofe joked that he needed to keep his shinpads on while in the gym during Leeds United’s pre-season tour.
Kemar Roofe has joked on Instagram that he bizarrely kept his shinpads on while in the gym because he heard that Leeds teammate Gaetano Berardi would also be in there as United continue their preparations for their upcoming pre-season game.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men are in Australia and face Manchester United in their next friendly. The Championship side have taken a strong squad out for the game, but have also left a number of key players back at Thorp Arch.
Roofe is one of those currently Down Under. And ahead of the game, the striker took to Instagram to post an image of the striker working out in the gym – and he joked that Berardi’s presence forced him to wear protective equipment…
It says a lot about Berardi’s popularity amongst the Leeds fans that he appears to have every chance of coming back from his error in last season’s play-off semi-final when a rash challenge resulted in a second yellow for the defender at a time when Bielsa’s side looked to be back in the ascendancy.
There are still plenty of fans who would prefer to see the cult-hero used as an understudy rather than a key player. But there is no doubt that, when fit, he looked to be another of Bielsa’s revelations when deployed at centre-back for much of last season. And of course, his passion for the club can never be questioned
And if Berardi can impress against the Premier League side in Perth, then he will certainly leave Bielsa with something of a dilemma with Brighton loanee Ben White also looking for a campaign of regular first-team football.
Meanwhile, Roofe previously posted this image from the training ground after Leeds arrived in Australia…
