Arsenal fans are laying into one of their players on Twitter - and it doesn't exactly bode well for Celtic.
The Gunners kicked off their pre-season tour of the United States with a routine victory over Colorado Rapids in Denver early this morning.
There was a bit of Celtic interest in the form Carl Jenkinson, who started for Arsenal in the right-back position.
The Hoops are in dire need of a new right-back after losing Jeremy Toljan and Mikael Lustig, and The Scottish Daily Mail reported last month (16/06) that the 27-year-old was on Neil Lennon's radar.
But it doesn't appear as if the one-time England international performed well stateside, with fans of the North London club laying into him on social media.
Jenkinson shouldn't be anywhere near this team by August #ArsenalInUSA— El Che (@SegunEmdin) July 16, 2019
You’re going to have to pause the game to explain to her the Man, the Myth, the Jenkinson— Connor (@SomethingRibald) July 16, 2019
I know Carl Jenkinson is one of our own but Jesus Christ he’s Sunday league at best ♂️— Jordan ✨☀ (@Jordan_the_1st_) July 16, 2019
Carl Jenkinson is hot garbage. We need a back-up RB. And preferably someone who's not a fascist.— Rohan (@Rohirrim_94) July 16, 2019
Jenkinson can’t move with the ball— Hlazo (@hlazotj) July 16, 2019
Carl Jenkinson’s arsenal career has been the most generous make a wish project ever.— b (@Arseneholic11) July 16, 2019
I’m afraid jenkinson looks awful— Joey Gold (@joeygold1) July 16, 2019
Jenkinson looks like the Arsenal player with the least first XI experience. He's the embodiment of #RobThisEngland— Daniel Reid (@LogicalDans) July 16, 2019
It was only Jenkinson's second appearance for Arsenal since February and, despite it being a friendly, his performance against such an inferior side didn't speak volumes.
Celtic may not even be interested, but Lennon needs to put the pedal to the metal and get a move on with regards to signing a couple of right-backs, and the lack of headway over getting them is slightly concerning.
