'Gutted': Nottingham Forest fans react as Sam Byram joins Norwich

Nottingham Forest fans surport their team during the Sky Bet Championship match between Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town at City Ground on May 7, 2017 in Nottingham, England.

Norwich City have bought Sam Byram from Premier League rivals West Ham for just £750k and this has not gone down well at the City Ground.

Any lingering hopes Nottingham Forest fans had of seeing Sam Byram rampaging down the right in that famous red kit have now been extinguished.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham have sold their misfit defender to Premier League newcomers Norwich City for just £750,000 – three years after he moved to London for £4 million from Leeds United.

And it’s telling that, despite being limited to just six Championship appearances last season through injury, Forest fans would have been queuing up to personally chauffeur Byram back to the City Ground.

Before a horrific knee injury which almost brought his season to a premature end, the 25-year-old had enjoyed a very promising start to life in the East Midlands.

And once he returned to action for the final few weeks of the campaign, Byram didn’t take long at all to get back to his usual swashbuckling self on the right-hand side.

So have Forest missed a trick here? Since Sabri Lamouchi replaced Martin O’Neill a fortnight ago, six new players have arrived. But, for just £750,000, Byram looks like one who has slipped through the net.
