According to Sky Sports, West Ham have sold their misfit defender to Premier League newcomers Norwich City for just £750,000 – three years after he moved to London for £4 million from Leeds United.
And it’s telling that, despite being limited to just six Championship appearances last season through injury, Forest fans would have been queuing up to personally chauffeur Byram back to the City Ground.
Before a horrific knee injury which almost brought his season to a premature end, the 25-year-old had enjoyed a very promising start to life in the East Midlands.
And once he returned to action for the final few weeks of the campaign, Byram didn’t take long at all to get back to his usual swashbuckling self on the right-hand side.
So have Forest missed a trick here? Since Sabri Lamouchi replaced Martin O’Neill a fortnight ago, six new players have arrived. But, for just £750,000, Byram looks like one who has slipped through the net.

FWIW, Byram wasn't even an O'Neill signing, why would we think Lamouchi has even heard of him, let alone want to sign him? Even if he did, Norwich can offer Premier League football & wages. Having said that, £750k in today's market is an absolute bargain. #nffc— Stephen Best (UI) (@SteveBest79) July 16, 2019
Sam Byram set for £750k switch to Norwich City. Shrewd business for a player of that quality, be a bonus if they can keep him fit too. #NFFC— Nottingham Forest News (@infromthetrent) July 16, 2019
Shame #NFFC couldn’t get Byram. 750k is a bargain! Unfortunately we’re always going to struggle when newly promoted teams or parachute payment teams are interested. Makes it difficult to compete for some players particularly with regard to wage demands.— Eastwood Red (@eastwoodred86) July 16, 2019
That’s a shame about Byram, quality player, dirt cheap aswell. Will be a good player for anyone that gets him. Gutted it’s not us tbh. Maybe Geddy will bring Zeffane back with him after they win the #AFCON2019 #nffc— Woody (@Mister_Forest) July 16, 2019
We have missed a trick not signing Byram for 750k. You don't get any better for that kind of money #NFFC— craig foster (@bizhubboy) July 16, 2019
