Former Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has reportedly resigned from his job as Sheffield Wednesday manager as he’s being touted for the vacant Newcastle United job.
Aston Villa fans have stated on Twitter that they feel sorry for Newcastle United supporters after a recent report suggested that Steve Bruce has resigned as Sheffield Wednesday manager.
As reported by BBC Sport, Bruce has resigned as Wednesday manager amid reported interest from Newcastle for the vacant role at St James’ Park.
Bruce was sacked as Villa manager last October when the club was in the Championship and it is fair to say that he left the club on a pretty sour note.
Throughout Bruce’s time at Villa Park, he divided opinion, as his subsequent replacement, Dean Smith, guided the club to promotion within his first season.
Nonetheless, some Villa fans have criticised Bruce for his lack of loyalty towards Sheffield Wednesday, who he joined after the turn of the year.
It now seems as though he is heading to St James’ Park where the atmosphere is already dire given the relationship with the fans and owner Mike Ashley.
It remains to be seen how Newcastle fans will react to Bruce’s subsequent appointment as his decision to seemingly resign from his current job hasn’t been well received.
Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Bruce’s reported resignation:
Don’t worry Newcastle fans you won’t find anyone better than him!— Kieran (@astonkieran1874) July 15, 2019
This the guy so many Villans were lauding for his loyalty last summer? Loyalty to his paycheck. Also, Mike Ashley wasn’t in for him last summer.— Chris Evans (@ChrisEv24467042) July 16, 2019
I feel sorry for Newcastle!— Villainofthepiste (@Villainofthepi1) July 15, 2019
Won’t feel like it right now #swfc but best thing that could happen to you. As for #nufc I feel for you, however bad you think Bruce is he is actually worse. Whatever the bad feeling between Newcastle and Villa in recent years you deserve better than Steve Bruce!— Mark Ashmore (@mg_ashmore) July 15, 2019
