Tottenham Hotspur could show brilliant foresight by signing William Saliba

A potential partnership between William Saliba and Davinson Sanchez should excite Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

If Tottenham do get hold of William Saliba, then they should be praised for showing great foresight.

According to BBC Sport, Tottenham are chasing a deal for Saliba, which would leave them with a centre-back combination which could last at the club for a decade.

Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are currently Tottenham’s first choice duo in the heart of their defence, and they are both brilliant talents.

However, Alderweireld and Vertonghen are not getting any younger, and there are doubts over the futures of the former.

Alderweireld has just a year left on his contract at Tottenham, while Vertonghen has now reached the age of 32.

The pair seemingly only have a limited time left playing together at Spurs, but if Saliba arrives then the future will still look very bright for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Tottenham already have Davinson Sanchez, who has all the tools required to become one of the best centre-backs in the world.

They also have Juan Foyth at the club, and he shows great promise, even if he does need to cut errors out of his game.

Saliba is even younger than both Sanchez and Foyth, but at 18 he still has proven that he is more than capable of playing top tier football in France.

And if Tottenham do manage to sign Saliba, then there will be no need to panic over the future of Spurs’s current centre-backs, as their replacements will already be in place.
