Lazio defender Wallace could finally be on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers with Citta Celeste claiming that a breakthrough in a potential £5.4 million deal could occur in the next few days.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo sounded a little frustrated on Monday morning when he told Sky that it was ‘obvious’ that the club needed to make signings in the final month of the transfer window.
“We are only going to bring players that can add quality to the squad that we have and that's why it requires time. Sometimes things are not possible but I'm hopeful that we are going to bring players in,” said Nuno, who so far has only been able to confirm permanent deals for loanees Leander Dendoncker and Raul Jimenez.
Wolves will need to balance Premier League and European football next season and, given that they have one of the smallest squads in England, Nuno is understandably concerned about a lack of real depth at Molineux.
But according to reports in Italy, the Black Country giants could be about to bring in Brazilian centre-back Wallace, a player they’ve been linked with since last summer, via Radiosei.
Wallace, 24, made just 14 Serie A starts last season but he would have no problems fitting into Nuno’s system, given that Lazio also play with a back three. And it should come as no surprise to learn that the former Monaco defender’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is absolutely central to his potential move to Molineux.
An announcement over his future could even be made in the coming days. So it seems that Nuno's demands are being answered.
