Liverpool have reportedly already made a proposal to sign the Barcelona ace.

According to a report from Calcio Mercato, Liverpool have made a two-year loan offer for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, with an option to buy for £88 million.

The Brazilian, 27, left the Reds for Barca in January 2018, for a fee believed to be worth £142 million, according to BBC Sport, but he has struggled to establish himself at the Camp Nou.

The Catalan giants have just signed Antoine Griezmann, so Coutinho’s chances of regular first-team action next season will be limited even further still.

A move away from Barcelona might be just what he needs to reinvigorate his career, but could he really make a shock return to Liverpool?

Calcio Mercato claims that the Brazil international is open to the idea of retuning to Anfield. They suggest that Liverpool have already tabled a two-year loan proposal, wither an option to buy the play-maker for £88 million at the end of said loan deal.

The Italian publication claims that Barca are not keen on the terms of the reported deal, however, and would prefer to sell Coutinho outright in order to raise funds for a move for Neymar.

It remains unclear as to whether Liverpool fans would welcome the 27-year-old back, however. He left under acrimonious circumstances, and the Reds have been just fine without him.

The Anfield crowd are a loyal, supportive bunch, however, and if Coutinho did return, whilst producing his magical best, it surely wouldn’t take long for Liverpool fans to forgive the South American for the manner in which he angled to leave Merseyside 18 months ago.
