Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon will be wanted back in the Premier League after suffering relegation, but few would have tabbed Aston Villa as a potential destination.
Sessegnon, 19, arrived in the Premier League with a huge reputation from his Championship days with Fulham, but failed to really get going in the top flight.
The teenager hit two goals and six assists for Fulham last season, and with just one year left on his deal at Fulham, he's expected to move on this summer.
With just a few weeks of the transfer window left to go, other clubs should be looking to swoop in if Tottenham sit back, and Aston Villa should be one of them.
The Telegraph claim that Villa launched a shock enquiry for Sessegnon earlier this summer, and Dean Smith's side should remain in the race just in case that move to Spurs doesn't materialise after all.
Villa would be able to give Sessegnon consistent playing time on the left wing, whilst reuniting him with left back Matt Targett, after they enjoyed a fine partnership at Fulham in 2018.
Villa have been splashing the cash this summer, but spending more on a top teenage talent like Sessegnon – who they could feasibly make a huge profit on – would be a sensible move, especially ahead of huge clubs like Spurs.
It remains bold for Villa to target Sessegnon, but with that expected move to Spurs will yet to go through, they would be wise to keep him on the radar and plot another ambitious attempt this summer.
