Ibrox Stadium of Rangers
Edmundson has joined Rangers from Oldham Athletic in England in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £700,000.
The 21-year-old defender has stated that he was only going to join Rangers once he heard that Steven Gerrard’s side were interested in him, meaning that Sunderland never stood a chance of landing the youngster.
According to The Daily Mail, Sunderland were among a host of clubs in England who wanted to sign Edmundson this summer.
Edmundson told The Scottish Sun: “It was an easy one to sign here. There were a few clubs interested but as soon as I got the call that Rangers were interested there was only one place I wanted to come.
"There were a few days when I thought it might not happen but I was happy with my decision.
“I told Oldham that Rangers was the place I wanted to go. If bids came in from elsewhere I didn’t want to go there, it was always Rangers.”
Good signing for Rangers
Edmundson is a very good and promising young defender who will enhance the quality of the Rangers defence.
Sunderland would have been a better team with the 21-year-old in it, and the defender’s arrival at the Stadium of Light would have enhanced the Black Cats’ chances of finishing in the top two of the League One table next season.
