Aston Villa have been very busy in the transfer market so far this summer, and one more deal appears to be nearing its completion.
On Friday morning, The Telegraph broke the news that Villa are closing in on Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz in a surprise move.
The 21-year-old was believed to be nearing a £15million move to Villa Park pending a work permit, filling the holding midfield role Villa have been looking to address.
Luiz was signed by City from Vasco da Gama in his native Brazil back in 2017, but work permit issues meant that he was loaned out to Girona for what turned out to be two years.
The midfielder was tabbed as a potential heir to Fernandinho at the Etihad Stadium, but with Rodri now signed up, City have seemingly accepted that Luiz needs to move on.
With technical and defensive ability, Luiz could be an exciting signing for years to come at Villa Park, and he may have today hinted that a move is close.
Luiz has taken to Instagram to post a video of himself in America, and he just happens to be in Minnesota's Mall of America, and Villa are out in the US ahead of playing – you guessed it – Minnesota United on Wednesday.
Luiz being in Minnesota just as Villa are there suggests that a deal is surely about to go through, unless there's a bizarre twist in the tale and the midfielder is just enjoying a holiday in one of America's coldest places.
