Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be keen on signing a right-back this summer.

According to Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window Podcast, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact with Dani Alves, who is a free agent.

Tottenham are understood to be keen on a right-back, as both Kieran Trippier and Serge Aurier’s futures are in doubt.

Alves has recently left PSG, after his contract expired, and Castles claims that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made contact with the Brazilian.

He said: “I understand that there’s been contact with Tottenham Hotspur about the possibility of Dani moving there in what would seem quite a strange addition for Tottenham, given that this is a club that’s focused on younger players, players whose value will increase, players they can get on reasonably cheap salaries.”

Alves is now 36, so he would only be a short-term addition at Tottenham, but he could still be brilliant.

Alves was one of the stars of the recent Copa America tournament, which proves that he still has a lot to offer.

Alves also recently took a pop at Arsenal boss Unai Emery, which could put him in favour with Tottenham fans.

Alves hinted that he did enjoy Emery’s methods very much when working with him at PSG, and suggested that Thomas Tuchel had made playing football fun again.

“The atmosphere he’s created here, he’s brought the pleasure back into coming to work,” Alves said, with the Metro suggesting it was a dig at Emery.

“You approach things with a big smile and energy.”

The signing of Alves would surely go down well at Tottenham, but it does seem unlikely at this point.

Alves was on a massive contract at PSG, and would have to take a pay cut to join Spurs.

That being said, Tottenham have been prepared to spend this summer, and snapping up a player of Alves’s quality on a free transfer would be an excellent move.
