Tottenham Hotspur are yet to move at right-back this summer.
Trippier is in a position where it's reported that he is not a priority target for top clubs abroad, but he is considered as a back-up if a player at Juventus, Napoli or Atletico are sold.
Manchester United dodged interest, signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka instead.
So it puts Trippier in a tough position as he returns for pre-season, and Spurs are no better off playing this waiting game either.
Serge Aurier is at the African Cup of Nations, nursing an injury, leaving just Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters to start the season.
It will get to the point where surely sooner or later, Tottenham need to make a firm decision to keep Trippier, and show him some support. Uncertainty is no good for player or club. Especially a player whose confidence looked shot last season.
Spurs certainly aren't being proactive with their own targets at right-back.
So if Tottenham aren't pushing to sign a replacement, and clubs aren't pushing to sign Trippier, the right-back needs to be supported, made to feel important to the club, with his confidence high to start the season.
After being left out of the recent England squad, Trippier should have plenty of motivation to improve.
