Aston Villa are about to break the £80 million barrier as they bring in a whole host of new signings but Heaton could be the best addition yet to Dean Smith’s squad.
The Sun claimed this week that Villa have seen a £7 million bid rejected for a 33-year-old shot-stopper who was nothing short of sensational in the second half of last season, his virtuoso displays keeping Burnley safe from a relegation battle and reminding everyone why he is an England international.
Heaton has rejected the chance to extend a contract which expires in 2020 and Burnley, given that they have little choice, have told the veteran that he can leave if Aston Villa increase their initial bid. They’d be fools not to.
And this has serious ramifications for Leeds United.
The Mirror claims that Burnley have made Northern Ireland’s number one Peacock-Farrell their top target should Heaton go, with the 22-year-old lined up to provide competition for Nick Pope, another England ‘keeper. The Clarets really are spoiled in the goalkeeping department.
And considering that Peacock-Farrell lost his starting spot to Kiko Casilla in January, you’d forgive the academy graduate for wondering whether he’d be better off leaving Leeds.
