Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Darren Randolph as Dean Smith looks to bolster his goalkeeper ranks.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from The Telegraph that suggested that Dean Smith is interested in Darren Randolph as he looks to land a new goalkeeper.

The Villans have enjoyed an incredibly productive summer following their Championship play-off final win, and have strengthened in a number of key areas. But they are still yet to sign a new stopper.

Jed Steer performed the best of the three that got a decent chance last season, with both Orjan Nyland and Lovre Kalinic proving to be unconvincing between the sticks. But with some fans still not entirely sure about the Englishman, it is little surprise that Smith is keen to land a new number one.

The Telegraph reports that Villa are in talks with Burnley about signing Tom Heaton, while Southampton’s Alex McCarthy is also on their radar. But the report adds that Middlesbrough goalkeeper Randolph is also attracting attention.

It is arguably a surprise that the 32-year-old is on their radar. He has been one of the Championship’s best goalkeepers since his move to the Riverside Stadium – though Villa fans have seen that he, like all goalkeepers, is capable of a howler – but he has not managed to establish himself in the Premier League during his career.

He did have a spell as number one while at West Ham, but eventually lost his place to Adrian. And for the large majority of Villa fans on social media, he is one target that Smith should be steering clear of this summer.

Here is what some of the fans make of the reports…
