Glasgow Rangers youngster Stephen Kelly delighted the Ibrox faithful with a hat-trick in a behind closed doors friendly.

A number of Rangers fans have expressed their excitement about Stephen Kelly’s potential after the midfielder scored a stunning hat-trick for the Gers in a behind closed doors friendly win over Ayr on Tuesday.

While Steven Gerrard led his side to a 4-0 win in Gibraltar in a Europa League qualifier, those left behind stormed to an even more emphatic win, with the Light Blues running out 6-1 victors against a strong Ayr side.

The likes of Jamie Murphy, Eros Grezda and Graham Dorrans looked set to steal the majority of the headlines just because of their involvement in the game. But Kelly took the chance to stake a real claim to Gerrard ahead of the coming campaign.

The 19-year-old – who made his professional debut for the Gers against the same opposition last season – bagged a treble, including a stunning a free-kick to largely overshadow the first-team players involved.

And following the win, plenty of fans have suggested that they have been given further proof that Kelly is one player to keep a very close eye out for in the coming years as he is clearly a special talent.

With Rangers boasting so much midfield depth, the supporters are not getting carried away, but plenty believe that a loan move could make a huge difference for the teenager as he looks to really prove himself to Gerrard and eventually get into the first-team fold.
