Premier League Sheffield United are reportedly keen to sign Brentford’s Neal Maupay and the Championship outfit are close to netting a replacement.

Brentford have entered talks with Southampton over a potential £5 million deal for Sam Gallagher, according to TEAMtalk – and this could have major ramifications at Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.

After all, speculation surrounding the future of Neal Maupay is only going to increase again if, or perhaps when, Gallagher arrives at Griffin Park.

According to TEAMtalk, former Blackburn and Birmingham loanee is keen on a move to Griffin Park with Thomas Frank confident that his side have beaten Wigan to the 23-year-old’s signature.

Apparently, Brentford feel that Gallagher, who is more of a targetman than a penalty-box poacher, has the potential to replace Maupay in West London.

And this might have just thrown the door wide open for Sheffield United to sign the striker they’ve been tracking all summer long.

The report adds that The Blades, who’s coffers have been substantially swelled by their return to the top flight, will have to pay a club-record £18 million to bring the fiery Frenchman to Bramall Lane.

A natural-born goalscorer blessed with dead-eyed finishing from in and around the penalty area, Maupay netted a remarkable 28 goals last season and he could be the prolific centre-forward Sheffield United need if they are to survive their first season back in the Premier League.
