The Walsall midfielder could become Sunderland’s third summer signing.

Walsall fans are reacting to reports linking George Dobson with a move to Sunderland.

According to the Northern Echo, the Mackems are hopeful of an agreement to sign the Walsall captain.

And as yet unverified reports claim Dobson was not present at the Saddlers’ friendly against Leamington on Tuesday evening.

Formerly on the books of Arsenal and West Ham United, Dobson has impressed in two spells at Walsall – the latest of which began in January of last year after a spell at Sparta Rotterdam.

The versatile central midfielder assisted eight goals in 44 games last season, across all competitions, and could help to fill the void left by Lee Cattermole’s recent Sunderland exit.

And several of a Walsall persuasion would be loathed to see him leave for the Stadium of Light.

Should Dobson move to Sunderland, he would become the Wearside club’s third summer signing, after the right-back, Connor McLaughlin, and the goalkeeper, Lee Burge, formerly of Millwall and Coventry City, respectively.

How big a loss would Dobson be for Walsall?
