Ivan Cavaleiro struggled in the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers but is a return to the Championship with Derby County on the cards?

Phillip Cocu might have only been the Derby County manager for a matter of days but it should already be apparent to the experienced Dutchman that replacing Harry Wilson is a matter of priority.

The reigning EFL Young Player of the Year, Wilson was a revelation during his loan spell at Pride Park from Liverpool, comfortably finishing as the club’s top scorer in the Championship with 16 goals, not to mention a further four assists.

But with the Welsh wing wizard returning to Anfield, there is a gaping void on the right hand side of Derby’s attack. Yet they might have just identified the perfect replacement in Ivan Cavaleiro.

Unlike Wilson, a subtle and skilful player, Cavaleiro is a brutish bulldog of a forward. He loves nothing more than to drive at goal at full pelt, shrugging full-backs off along the way.

Nine goals and 12 assists as Wolves won the Championship title in 2018, Wolves’ one-time £7 million record signing would be a perfect addition for a manager like Cocu, whose counter-attacking approach inspired PSV to three Eredivisie titles in four years.

Wolvesbite say that a deal is on the cards – and Derby fans could not be happier.
