Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Ivan Sunjic could end up at Leeds United this summer, according to Croatian publication Sportske Novosti, though Marcelo Bielsa’s side will need to offer more than £3.5 million to get their man.
It has been a rather mixed summer for Leeds fans so far. Helder Costa looks like a potentially transformative signing while Jack Clarke’s £10 million move to Tottenham was softened by his return to Elland Road on loan.
But then there is the ongoing Pontus Jansson saga and the suggestion that another fans’ favourite, top scorer Kemar Roofe, could be on his way too.
Furthermore, The Mail suggests that Leeds are preparing for the potential departure of influential midfielder Kalvin Phillips by turning their attention to Croatian U21 captain Sunjic.
The report stated that Leeds had made a bid for the 22-year-old. It was not certain how much they had offered but Championship rivals Birmingham City apparently put down £3.5 million.
Sportske Novosti, however, have made it clear that reigning Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb have no intention of selling their prized asset for as little as £3.5 million in today’s market although they do admit that a move to England is possible for Sunjic, particularly if Leeds are handed a cash injection by a partnership with Paris Saint-Germain.
Yet even if Sunjic does arrive, it would be rather bittersweet with Phillips expected to bid farewell.
