The Tykes have signed Wilks from Yorkshire rivals Leeds on a four-year contract in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United spell

Wilks struggled to make an impact at Leeds and failed to break into the first team at Elland Road.

The 20-year-old, who can also operate as a winger, had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Grimsby Town and Doncaster Rovers, and the youngster has progressed and developed as a footballer.

Succeeding at Barnsley

Barnsley will play in the Championship next season after clinching promotion from League One at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.

Daniel Stendel’s side will be aiming to retain their Championship status, and Wilks will play an important role.

As for Leeds, Marcelo Bielsa’s side will aim to finish in the top two of the Championship table next season.
