Report: Crystal Palace return for Khouma Babacar with Sassuolo set to sell

Crystal Palace very nearly signed Khouma Babacar last summer, but the Serie A striker could reportedly be heading to the Premier League one year on.

Crystal Palace could be about to renew their interest in Khouma Babacar, according to Corriere dello Sport, after a single, disappointing season at Sassuolo.

Considering that Christian Benteke, Connor Wickham and Alexander Sorloth mustered just three Premier League goals across the entirety of 2019, you’d think Crystal Palace would be going all out to sign a new centre-forward this summer – and a more reliable one at that.

So far, however, Palace haven’t signed a single player in the transfer window, let alone a striker capable of firing them into the top half of the table.

That might soon change, however, with Corriere dello Sport claiming that Babacar is back in The Eagles’ sights – and available for a bargain £6 million.

The Mirror reported last summer that the 26-year-old was on the verge of moving to Selhurst Park for £12 million. Now, he could be on his way for half price.

And considering that Babacar netted just seven times in 29 Serie A games for Sassuolo in 2018/19, it is understandable why his market value has fallen so dramatically in the last 12 months.

A physical, 6ft 3ins centre-forward, the Senegal international has never lived up to the early promise he showed at Fiorentina. Is he really a risk worth taking for Crystal Palace these days.
