Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in snapping up Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake, while Manchester United are hunting Harry Maguire.

Tottenham Hotspur would show Manchester United up in the transfer window, if they land Nathan Ake for £40 million.

L’Equipe have suggested that Spurs are interested in the centre-back, as they look for potential replacements for Toby Alderweireld.

As things stand Alderweireld has just one year left on his contract at Tottenham, and it seems that he is heading for the exit either this summer or next.

Finding a replacement for Alderweireld will be very difficult, but Spurs are said to have their eye on Ake and he could be a very smart signing.

Ake has speed, is comfortable in possession and even though he is under 6ft, he still wins his fair share of headers.

The Dutchman is only still only 24, and he looks a brilliant value for money transfer when compared with what other sides are charging for their prized centre-backs.

Recent reports in the Daily Mail have suggested that Manchester United have made a £70 million bid for Harry Maguire of Leicester City, but the Foxes are holding out for £90 million.

England's defender Harry Maguire runs with the ball during the friendly international football match between England and Germany at Wembley Stadium in London on November 10, 2017.

Maguire is two years older than Ake, and while he is an excellent defender, his price-tag surely leaves question marks over the transfer.

There may be some doubts over Ake’s height, but there are concerns of Maguire’s lack of pace - which is something which the Bournemouth man has in spades.

And if Spurs manage to complete the signing of Ake for £40 million, while United pay more than double that amount for Maguire, then it would be another piece of smart strategy from Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
