Jurgen Klopp is pushing Liverpool to bring Real Madrid bench-warmer Dani Ceballos to Anfield this summer, according to Marca, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both circling around the Spanish starlet.
The return of Zinedine Zidane to the Bernabeu bench in the spring appears to have ruined any hopes Ceballos might have had of rescuing his Los Blancos career.
You would think Zidane, one of the most creative and gifted midfielders of his generation, would love a player with the 22-year-old’s remarkable technique and street footballer’s skill but not so. Ceballos started just four La Liga games under the Frenchman in 2017/18 and he appears to have no future at the club as long as Zidane sticks around.
Marca claims that the Premier League, and Tottenham in particular, remains the most likely destination for the former Real Betis hero, given that Spurs will allow Madrid to put a buy-back clause in his contract. They are in pole position as things stand.
Yet Liverpool are hovering in the background, ready to strike. Marca claims that their interest has grown substantially in recent weeks, perhaps because of Ceballos’s dazzling performances in Spain’s victorious U21 European Championships campaign.
Klopp apparently believes Ceballos can provide the energy and thrust to Liverpool’s midfield that Naby Keita was expected to offer during a debut campaign that ended up being a huge disappointment, at least until a promising final few weeks.
AS claimed recently that Real want £45 million for Ceballos and Liverpool have shown that they are more than happy to pay big if the right player becomes available.
