It seems a long time ago now when Wilson exploded onto the scene with two goals on his Manchester United debut against Hull City, scribing his name into the Old Trafford record books at the age of just 17.
Five years on, Wilson’s Manchester United career is over. He managed just two more strikes in a further 19 appearances for the Premier League giants before being released at the end of last season.
Sunderland have represented something of a fresh start for so many former United youngsters over the years, such as Kieran Richardson, John O’Shea and Wes Brown, but the 23-year-old striker won’t be following in their footsteps.
Wilson has sealed a permanent move to Aberdeen after spending last season on loan at Pittodrie despite interest from The Black Cats. The Scottish Sun back up claims that he rejected a move lucrative offer from south of the border.
Considering that Sunderland have been tracking Wilson for the last 11 months, as reported by the Chronicle when Jack Ross hinted at his interest, the fact that they have now officially missed out will certainly come as a disappointment. All that time wasted.
