Rangers midfielder Steven Davis came through the ranks at Aston Villa, so he will know all about playing for the Midlands giants.
Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has wished Matt Targett ‘good luck’ after he signed for Aston Villa and told him that it is a ‘great club’.
The 34-year-old, who is now back at Ibrox playing under the stewardship of Steven Gerrard, came through the ranks at Villa, so he will be well aware of what it’s like playing for the Midlands giants.
Left-back Targett put pen-to-paper on a permanent Villa contract on Monday, when he made the switch from Southampton on Monday afternoon, as he is Dean Smith’s fifth purchase of the summer.
Nonetheless, Villa fans will love the little message Davis sent to Targett on his personal Instagram account not long after he signed for the newly-promoted club.
Both Targett and Davis would have played with one another at Southampton, with Davis leaving St Mary’s in January and moving back to Ibrox.
Davis will be hoping to win the Scottish Premiership next season, whilst Targett will be looking to make a name for himself for a Villa side that won promotion to England’s top-flight via the Championship play-offs.
The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Southampton, but he will now battle Neil Taylor and the versatile Kortney Hause for that left-back spot.
Villa’s first game of the new Premier League campaign will be against Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Davis play Kilmarnock away from home, but before then, they will be involved in a number of European matches.
