Leeds United defender Aapo Halme is reportedly closing in on a move to their Championship rivals this summer.
A number of Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to react to a report from Finnish outlet Helsingin Sanomat which has claimed that Aapo Halme has agreed to join Barnsley permanently this summer – and it appears that the supporters are divided on his reportedly imminent exit.
Halme appeared set to go into this season with an outside chance of getting some more game-time for Marcelo Bielsa’s side after making his senior debut for the Whites last term.
He made a handful of appearances and featured regularly on the bench during the latter weeks of the season when Bielsa had to cope with a number of injuries. Nevertheless, it appears that he is on his way out of Elland Road this summer.
Helsingin Sanomat reports that the Finland under-21 international has agreed a three-year deal at Oakwell as Barnsley prepare for life back in the Championship having secured promotion last season.
The news has been by a mixed response on social media. There are plenty who believe that Halme has plenty to offer and it would be a mistake to let him leave permanently, even if he is well down the pecking order heading into this season.
However, others seem to think that Leeds are making the right decision in letting him go. They are not convinced that he has as much potential as some believe and is one of the under-23 starlets that the Whites can afford to sell this summer.
Here is how some of the fans have reacted to the reports…
I don’t mind Halme leaving gotta admit after watching a lot of u23 last season struik is much better than him and with Ben white and Berardi here plus whoever else gets pulled into u23. Halme is error prone.— Olliejk92 (@olliejk92) July 2, 2019
I liked what I saw when he started last year, shame they’re moving him on but good luck to him.— Rambo-84-LUFC (@BlatherwickRhys) July 2, 2019
I really like Halme, such brilliant performances in his two main ones this season Sheffield United and QPR at home, didn’t look out of place and when the CB’s are currently in question, I for one, hope this doesn’t happen.#LUFC https://t.co/hTu71SUMDR— Ramblings/Conor ⚪ (@ramblingsaltv) July 2, 2019
Would be a shame to see him go, looked like he was just a loan away from being ready. Got to assume that the club think the deal is worth it. Strujik the only U23s CB left if this is true?— Marcelo Bielsa Fan Account (@TotalLeedsball) July 2, 2019
Marked sharp out the game at sheff United was outstanding that game, we shouldn’t be letting him go anywhere !— Connor Gresham (@connorgresham) July 2, 2019
How much did we pay for him? I can’t see us making a profit on him so why sell him? He’s young and has potential he looks fairly sluggish but surely a loan move would be perfect for both clubs— Matt smith (@msmithrapid) July 2, 2019
I like him, but probably 6th choice atm— Bobby (@bobby_wilson1) July 2, 2019
