According to the Daily Record Sunderland want to sign James Wilson this summer, and that could be an inspired signing.

Sunderland are on the look out for new additions, after what has been a slow start to the transfer window so far.

Jack Ross has a new striker high up on his wishlist and Wilson could turn out to be a brilliant addition.

Wilson is available on a free transfer, which means he is practically a no risk signing for Sunderland, but the rewards could be massive.

The 23-year-old was once regarded as one of Manchester United’s best prospects and was even given time in their first team as a youngster.

Wilson hasn’t developed at the rate that United were hoping, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is extremely talented.

If Sunderland could get Wilson back to his best then they could have a footballer in their squad worth millions in the future.

And to have the opportunity to sign a player of that potential on a free means that Sunderland should definitely hand Wilson a chance to develop at the Stadium of Light.
