Matt Targett has joined Aston Villa from Southampton.

Matt Targett has taken to Twitter to express his delight at joining Aston Villa from Southampton.

The Villans – who will play in the Premier League next season after clinching promotion from the Championship via the playoffs – have signed the 23-year-old left-back from Southampton.

The former England Under-21 international, who can also operate as a wing-back, has taken to Twitter to express his delight at completing the move to Villa Park.

Southampton have responded to Targett’s post on Twitter, and the Premier League club have wished the youngster the best of luck for the future.

Good signing for Aston Villa?

Targett could not make a massive impact at Southampton, but the 23-year-old is a very talented and promising young left-back who can be a long-term success at Villa.

Neil Taylor is the first-choice left-back at Villa, but Targett will provide him with stiff competition.

Villa will be aiming to break into the top 10 of the Premier League next season under manager Dean Smith.
