Everton could lose striker Bassala Sambou this summer.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton striker Bassala Sambou is attracting major interest around Europe as he prepares to leave Goodison Park.
The 21-year-old striker hit 11 goals for the Everton Under-23’s last season, earning praise in the process – but also major interest in the process.
The German’s contract expires today, and having so far refused a new deal, the striker looks set to leave, which teams from five leagues pursuing him.
Championship and League One teams want to keep him in England, whilst Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga sides are aiming to take him home, with interest from Eredivisie sides in the Netherlands too.
Everton may have a glimmer of hope that they can convince Sambou into a U-turn today, but that seems highly unlikely, and once that deal expires, he’ll surely be gone.
In truth, Sambou is at an age where he needs first-team football. He’s been scoring for Everton’s Under-23’s but seems nowhere near the Toffees first team, and at 21, he needs to be settled and playing.
A move to the Bundesliga may not help that right now, but heading into the Championship could be ideal if he joins a side who can promise him an important role.
Everton will be due compensation wherever Sambou goes, but they may be hoping it’s to another English club, as they’d receive more money than if he went abroad.
