According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (30/6; page 59), Aston Villa want £5 million for Lovre Kalinic this summer with Dean Smith keen to offload his £50,000-a-week wages.
Kalinic has endured a disappointing spell since arriving at Villa Park during the January transfer window. Injury saw the Croatian lose his place to Jed Steer, and the Englishman remained between the sticks for the rest of the campaign as the Villans sealed promotion to the Premier League.
And it appears that that 45-minute appearance in the defeat to West Brom in February could prove to be the 29-year-old's final game for the club with Villa keen to sell Kalinic this summer.
The Sun on Sunday (30/6; page 59) reports that Kalinic is available for £5 million with Villa wary of paying his £50,000-a-week wages during the coming campaign. However, it appears that there is an issue.
The report notes that Nantes are interested in Kalinic, but they only want the stopper on loan.
While it would be a blow to only be able to loan Kalinic out, Smith may feel that letting him go on a temporary basis would still be better than having him on the periphery of his squad next season, especially if Nantes are willing to cover a good portion of his wages.
And if no-one is willing to meet Villa's demands, then perhaps sending him on loan could make a lot of sense as it may allow Kalinic to put himself in the shop window.
