Celtic need to bring in a couple of right backs this summer.
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has avoided questions about moving for Luton Town right back Jack Stacey or free agent Adam Matthews.
The Bhoys have enjoyed a productive couple of days, signing Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien before also landing Bolton’s young midfielder Luca Connell.
Those are signings that fit well with Celtic, bringing in an instant contributor at centre back in Jullien, and a midfielder for the future in Connell.
Still, Celtic need to sort out their right back situation, as the contracts of veteran duo Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa expire today.
A number of right backs have been touted for moves to Parkhead, and The Scottish Mail on Sunday (back page, 16/06) suggested that Lennon was keen to reunite with Adam Matthews.
The Welshman, 27, is a free agent having been released by Sunderland, but he may well find a home back at Parkhead having signed for Celtic and Lennon back in 2011.
Another option may be Luton Town’s Jack Stacey, as The Sun claim Celtic want the 23-year-old after a superb attacking season in which he hit four goals and eight assists.
Lennon has refused to really answer questions about either player though, telling the Daily Mail that rumours about Stacey are just ‘speculation’.
Lennon was then directly asked about Matthews, and offered this comment to the Daily Mail, refusing to deny a move for either player; “I’m not going to talk about any players until they are sitting next to me. I can’t talk about players who may or may not come,” he added, which may leave Celtic fans to wonder whether both are on the radar.
