Youssouf Mulumbu's Celtic career is officially over.
Brendan Rodgers signed the DR Congo international from Kilmarnock last summer, but the 32-year-old struggled in a big way at Parkhead.
Mulumbu made only three appearances for Celtic, before Rodgers loaned him back to the Rugby Park club in January.
Here's how Hoops fans reacted to the development:
Still cant figure out why he was ever signed in the first placr— Jim (@Jim_1967HH) June 30, 2019
One of the strangest signings of recent times. Not his fault though.— Cwispycwunch (@cwispycwunch) June 30, 2019
Feel sorry for the guy, victim of a failed PR attempt.— Treble Alliance (@BeastieBhoy) June 30, 2019
Utterly bizarre signing, I wish him all the best though.— Horris (@HorrisMcLoven) June 30, 2019
Mulumbu’s contract ripped up. Not surprised in the slightest but good to see we’re starting to clear out the deadwood. Hopefully guys like Hendry, Commper next!— Murray (@DMMacdonald96) June 29, 2019
Where is Mulumbu? Did Scott Allan lock him in the gym?— Fianna Irish Rebel Band (@Fianna2010) June 30, 2019
It didn't work out for Mulumbu, whose contract wasn't due to expire until next summer, but that isn't to say he's a bad footballer because he's anything but.
His performances against Celtic proved as much during the 2017-18 campaign, but Lennon simply has a stable full of incredible midfield options and Mulumbu has neither the age or the ability to stake a claim to play regularly.
He is expected to start DR Congo's last Africa Cup of Nations game with Zimbabwe this evening and a good performance might put him in the shop window, in light of Lennon's revelation.
