James Gunn’s DC blockbuster is shaping up nicely, but is Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad 2?

Suicide Squad 2 is easily one of the most anticipated superhero movies on the horizon, but fans are curious to know one thing…

David Ayer’s 2016 blockbuster was considered by many as the worst film of that year; they’re probably right. The hype surrounding the film was undeniable, but once its release rolled around, general audiences felt cheated; frankly, the film missed every mark but one.

A sizeable demographic found a glimmering ray of hope in Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn. She has the most personality of the squad, and Robbie’s performance provided some light entertainment; a miracle under the circumstances. Will she return?

The new squad!

Replacing Ayer, we have James Gunn in the director’s chair – the man behind the MCU mega-hit Guardians of the Galaxy, along with its sequel.

Judging by the comedic tone of the first film, he’s the perfect choice to helm the sequel. Since his announcement, we’ve seen a number of exciting names associated with the project, and that can’t be a mere coincidence.

According to IMDb – under the title The Suicide Squad – such stars as Idris Elba (Luther) and John Cena (Blockers) have hopped on board; Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and more also look set to make an appearance, but official announcements are yet to be made.

Is Margot Robbie in Suicide Squad 2?

The actress appears on the IMDb page’s cast list, which is certainly a good indicator.

While it doesn’t look like anything concrete has been confirmed as of yet, Digital Spy suggests that Robbie will return, especially when you consider she’ll be reprising the Harley Quinn role in the forthcoming Birds of Preyscheduled for release on Friday, February 7th, 2020.

Cathy Yan’s exploration of the character is expected to be a hit, so it’s hard to imagine Gunn replacing the element fans most enjoyed in the predecessor.

It’s just a shame that Will Smith won’t be back as Deadshot.

Suicide Squad 2 release date

Better not hold your breath – there’s a long wait!

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is estimated for release on Friday, August 6th 2021; we expect a glorious summer blockbuster in the vein of Guardians of the Galaxy, with an R-rating, obviously.
