Colchester ace Sammie Szmodics will reportedly be playing Championship football at Bristol City rather than Leeds United next season.
Leeds United showed late interest in signing Colchester star Sammie Szmodics although the midfielder is still set to complete a bargain move to Bristol City instead, according to the Bristol Post.
It has been a frustrating start to the transfer window for Leeds fans. Despite links with exciting talents such as Helder Costa and Ryan Kent, there have been no new players through the door at Elland Road as Marcelo Bielsa looks to build a side capable of automatic promotion to the Premier League.
And Szmodics won’t be heading to Leeds anytime soon either.
The Bristol Post claims that the 23-year-old is set to become Bristol City’s latest bargain buy for just £750,000 with Lee Johnson’s Robins fighting off Leeds’ attempts to hijack the deal at the eleventh hour.
Hull City and Derby County were also interested.
A 5ft 6ins attacking midfielder, Szmodics is an intelligent and creative player with a real eye for goal.
He notched 15 in all competitions for Colchester last season and with Leeds rather overreliant on their veteran play-maker Pablo Hernandez it would have been interesting to see whether Szmodics could share the burden.
