Celtic could’ve signed the Egypt international four years ago.

If you made a list of mistakes that Ronny Deila made at Celtic, the sheet of paper would run longer than Kieran Tierney.

Actually, bringing through the young left-back was one of the more positive things about the Norwegian manager’s legacy at Parkhead.

Still, he did make a whole bunch of errors and one of them might’ve been to snub a transfer for Mahmoud ‘Trezequet’ Hassan.

Trezeguet, an Egypt international, told Herald Scotland in 2015: “I’ve repeatedly stated that I want to sign for Celtic. And I have been told that Celtic’s official offer to the club will arrive this week.

“I won’t give up my dream. Especially since everybody knows the name and popularity of a club like Celtic.”

Fast forward four years and Trezeguet, now 24, could hit the big time very soon.

He was among the stars on Wednesday as Egypt beat DR Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations clash. In fact, the Kasimpasa winger has been one of his country’s best players throughout the competition and he is getting some serious exposure.

Dazzling in a competition like this is one hell of a way to showcase your talents and, well, if he continues to impress then he won’t be with the Turkish side for long.

Bigger things are promised for Trezeguet and given how determined he was to join Celtic in 2015, you have to wonder whether it was a major error by Deila not to sign him.

This is a player who is now worth millions to Kasimpasa and they could get a very tidy sum this summer.
