Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino appears to be close to persuading Tanguy Ndombele to move to White Hart Lane.

According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino could allow Eric Dier to leave once Tanguy Ndombele arrives.

Spurs have been given the green light to sign Ndombele from Lyon, with Pochettino’s side now closing in on a deal for their top target.

Ndombele is set to strengthen Tottenham’s midfield ranks for next season, and he is likely to go straight into their starting line-up.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the finest midfielders in European football, and Tottenham appear to have beaten some high profile clubs to his signature.

Ndombele’s arrival will push Dier further down the pecking order at White Hart Lane though, and it is claimed that Pochettino will now make him available for transfer.

Dier struggled with illness and injury over the past campaign at Tottenham, and he hasn’t quite developed at the rate many were hoping.

Dier was a key player for Spurs just three seasons ago, but his importance to the side has been on the wane of late.

If Dier was to leave Tottenham now there would likely be few voices of discontent, but that doesn’t mean that Pochettino’s side wouldn’t be losing a quality player.

Spurs could expect to receive a sizeable fee for Dier, as he was valued at £50 million just two years ago (the Guardian), and he is still only 25.

And that money could go towards funding further signings at White Hart Lane in the coming weeks.
