Leeds United finished third in the Championship this past season.
Phillips, who is an important player in Marcelo Bielsa’s side and also operated as a central defender on occasions this past campaign, has said that hopefully Leeds have something else up their sleeve in 2019-20.
Phillips told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “I think a lot more teams will be prepared for us now, but, hopefully, we will have something up our sleeve and we can start the season how we did last time.”
Promotion challenge
Leeds finished third in the Championship this past season and deservedly booked a place in the playoffs.
However, the Whites failed to get it over the line, and the team will be determined to get the job done this time around.
Teams in the Championship will have wised up to Bielsa’s way of playing, and it is going to be hard for Leeds to repeat their heroics of last season in 2019-20.
Linked away
Phillips has been linked with a move away from Leeds in the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror, Aston Villa - who will play in the Premier League next season after clinching promotion from the Championship via the playoffs - are planning to make a £14 million bid for the 23-year-old central midfielder.
