Max Kruse has a decision to make.
At the age of 31, the departing Werder Bremen talisman has one last chance to secure a move to one of Europe’s biggest and most historic clubs. After enjoying the best spell of his career in the Bundesliga, it seems that he has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in his hands.
Sport1 claim that Liverpool are keen to snap up Kruse on a free transfer. And although the German international would probably be a back-up at Anfield, the chance to work with Jurgen Klopp in the peak years of his career is one Kruse cannot afford to pass up.
Klopp is clearly a fan – and has been for some time.
“Max Kruse – to be honest there's no alternative,” Klopp told DW when asked to pick his Player of the Season after the 2013/14 Bundesliga campaign.
Then again, even a move to Liverpool might not set up Kruse for life and give him the kind of financial safety net 99 per cent of the world’s population would give a spare limb for.
According to Fussball Transfers, Beijing Sinobo Guoan have offered Kruse a three-year deal worth £205,000 a week. Should he stay in China for the duration of his contract, the former Monchengladbach forward would pick up a staggering £18.5 million – and that is after tax.
And the decision now comes down to him. Kruse would hardly find himself on the breadline at Liverpool and, one day down the line, he’d surely regret choosing greed over glory.
