Trossard appears to be Premier League-bound during this window, with The Argus reporting that the Seagulls have agreed a £18 million fee with Genk following a campaign in which he scored 22 goals and contributed 11 assists in all competitions.
However, it appears that Dean Smith is hoping to throw a late spanner in the works. The Argus reports that the Villans have entered the battle to sign the 24-year-old, while Arsenal are not out of the running either.
Exciting move for Villa?
The report notes that Brighton remain the favourites to sign Trossard. But it would be a fantastic statement from Villa to land the Belgian, especially as he appears to being so close to joining a Premier League rival.
The Villans have wasted little time to get stuck into the transfer market ahead of their return to England's top table. But while the deals for the likes of Jota and Kortney Hause look to be shrewd pieces of business, the fans will now be hoping that the attention soon switches to marquee additions.
Trossard would certainly be that if Villa could leap ahead of Brighton. It appears that they have some work to do, but joining the race at this stage suggests that Smith's men believe that the door is still open.
