Bolton Wanderers wonderkid Luca Connell appears to be heading to Scottish Premiership giants Celtic despite Premier League interest.
Celtic are hoping to make Luca Connell their first signing of the summer when the Bolton Wanderers youngster returns from international duty with the Republic of Ireland, according to The Express.
The 18-year-old looks set to be the latest player to leave crisis-club Bolton this summer after the Lcanshire outfit were relegated from the Championship amid an ongoing financial meltdown. And he is hardly short of offers.
The Mail reported recently that that Celtic were leading the chase for Connell’s signature despite interest from a host of Premier League clubs. The Liverpool-born teenager is expected to cost as little as £240,000 given that Bolton failed to tie him down to a permanent contract.
And The Express believes that a deal could be done very soon with Celtic hoping to announce Connell’s arrival when he makes his return from international duty with the Republic of Ireland.
Once Bolton’s administrators pass Bolton to their new owners, Celtic’s deal could be finalised with Connell seemingly on his way to Scotland rather than the Premier League.
This will be a substantial coup for the Glasgow giants, even if the versatile full-back has made just a smattering of first-team appearances so far.
Huge interest from England’s top flight tells you just how coveted Connell is and there is no reason to believe he couldn’t follow in the footsteps of Moussa Dembele, Virgil van Dijk and co at Parkhead.
