Aston Villa are reportedly amongst the group of sides interested in signing Ben Gibson this summer.

A number of Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from TEAMtalk over the weekend which suggested that Dean Smith is one of the managers interested in signing Burnley defender Ben Gibson this summer.
The Villans are continuing their preparations for life back at the highest level after winning the Championship play-off final. Smith has already overseen a number of signings, and it appears that he is now keen to bolster his defensive ranks.
TEAMtalk reports that Villa, along with fellow top flight newbies Norwich City and Sheffield United, are interested in Gibson, who is free to leave Turf Moor this summer, and could even be allowed to move on on loan one year after his £15 million move.
Gibson – who is Burnley’s joint-most expensive signing ever (via BBC Sport) – endured a tough first year with the Clarets, making just one Premier League appearance. So it is little surprise that the reaction to the reports on social media has been fairly mixed.

Given his struggles with injury and the fact that his only league appearance came in the 5-1 Boxing Day defeat to Everton this past season – in fairness, the score was 3-1 when Gibson left the pitch, and he did score Burnley’s goal that day – there are plenty who are not keen on seeing Villa pursue a move.
There are however, some who believe that he could be a very good signing for Villa. He was extremely impressive during his time with Middlesbrough, and some clearly think he could get back to his best by moving to Villa Park.

Here is what some of the supporters make of the reports…
