If Tottenham Hotspur can get Marco Asensio in any deal which takes Christian Eriksen to Real Madrid then Daniel Levy will have played a blinder.

The Sun have suggested that Spurs are set to ask for the 22-year-old in any transfer which takes Eriksen to Madrid.

Whether Madrid will agree to the transfer remains to be seen, but if they do then Spurs can feel that they have had a major success.

Eriksen will be very difficult to replace for Tottenham, as he is such a wonderful and unique talent.

However, Asensio may be one of the very few players in world football with a higher ceiling than Eriksen.

Asensio has been starved of regular action in recent times, and that has stunted his development, but if he was given the role of being Tottenham’s key creator he could thrive.

The Spanish international has everything in his game to make him one of the best players in the world in the future.

Asensio is a goal threat due to his ability to hammer shots in from distance, but he is also skilful in possession and has wonderful technique.

If he was brought to Spurs then he could not just be a replacement for Eriksen, but he may well turn out to be better than the Dane when he reaches his peak.

And if Tottenham can get Madrid to part ways with Asensio then Levy will have done absolutely brilliantly in the negotiations.
