Andy Robertson should fear for his place if Liverpool sign Junior Firpo

Liverpool won the Champions League trophy last season, but they missed out on the Premier League title in a cruel fashion.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - JUNE 08:Andy Robertson of Scotland is seen during the European Qualifier for UEFA Euro 2020 at Hampden Park on June 08, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Liverpool are keen on the services of Real Betis defender Junior Firpo this summer.

As things stand, Andy Roberston is the only bonafide left-back on the red side of Merseyside, and given Jurgen Klopp's very demanding style of play, the Geman will need cover for that area during the next campaign.

If Liverpool do push through with a deal for Firpo and he does land on Klopp's doorstep before the new Premier League campaign begins then Robertson should begin to fear for his place.

Firpo is a very energetic fullback, which perhaps indicates one of the reasons why the Champions League winners are keen on him. Plus, he possesses an abundance of speed on the flanks.

Whilst the 22-year-old wouldn't dislodge the established and Anfield fan favourite Robertson straightaway, given time, he should be fearing for his place.

If truth be told, that is exactly what Liverpool need because they need their recent first-team stars tested and more and more competition to develop within the team.

If that were to happen then it'll only benefit Liverpool as a whole as their dreams of winning the Premier League title next season will edge closer - the relentless train in Manchester City stand in their way.

Last term, Robertson had the unfancied Alberto Moreno and the utility man James Milner waiting to cover for him in case of an injury, suspension or a change in the XI.

If Firpo joins the club then they will add more quality on the flanks, and most importantly more freshness, which would bode well for the team as a whole and coping with a long schedule.
