Leeds United reportedly asked about bringing Eredivisie flyer Sheraldo Becker to the Championship – but he’s apparently heading to the Bundesliga.
With blistering pace, fantastic dribbling skills and more assists than any other Eredivisie player in 2019, Sheraldo Becker looked every inch the sort of thrilling attacking talent who could give Leeds United a much-needed boost.
A lack of creativity and cutting edge was a major problem in the second half of the 2018/19 Championship campaign with Marcelo Bielsa’s side throwing away their best chance of Premier League football in over a decade.
Things might have been different had a deal for jet-heeled Swansea City winger Daniel James not fallen through in the final few minutes of the January transfer window of course. But Becker, who shares James’ penchant for a rapid burst of acceleration, looked like a perfect alternative – albeit five months too late.
The Mirror (19 May, page 70) reported that Leeds were keen on a winger who scored eight goals and set up 11 more for ADO Den Haag last season.
But, after James slipped through their fingers, Becker could too.
According to Kicker, the 24-year-old might soon be off the market as he edges closer and closer to joining Bundesliga newcomers Union Berlin.
So the warning signs are there for Leeds. Act now, or Elland Road will miss out on seeing another jet-heeled winger.
